Can you believe it? Another cover reveal!
I always say this….maybe because I have such a talented team behind me, but this may be my favorite cover EVER!
(I know…just wait until the next one!)
But seriously, this cover is stunningly simple and once you read the book, it will hold so much meaning to you.
The Tattered Gloves is a book idea I’ve had for well over a year. It started out as a new adult book, but I could never quite get the storyline right.
And then one day, my twelve year old daughter, who is a huge reader asked me why I couldn’t just sit down and write a book for her and her friends already! She was sick of having the cool author mom with all the books she could never read…
But it was exactly what I needed to hear to push this story from a concept to a reality. Taking it from new adult to young adult simply made the story come to life. But I’m a adult romance author….can I even do young adult?
Am I petrified no one will read it? Yes! Am I scared to death people will instantly walk away once they find out how sweet and innocent it is compared to everything else I’ve done.
But, in all honesty…this has been one of the biggest joys of my career to write, and I hope you take a chance on it. It’s honest, emotional and yes, romantic!
So, without further ado…here is the GORGEOUS cover and blurb for The Tattered Gloves!
Don’t look up.
Never make eye contact.
Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.
But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.
And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.
Am I brave?
Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about what’s next in the land of J.L. Berg. I’ve been deep in my writing cave, making sure I actually have enough of a story before I
announced anything and now, it’s finally time to share!
I’m currently working on not one, but two books!
This is a first for me. I always swore I’d never write more than one story at a time. It’s hard to focus on that many characters, and honestly…it’s confusing. However, I think because these storylines are so different, it’s been actually rather easy and manageable. So…on to the details!
The Tattered Gloves
This will be the first book to release. Right now, I’m planning on a January release. What makes this book unique for me is its the first young adult book I’ve ever attempted. Why YA? Well, there are many reason. The first–I love YA. It’s a beautiful genre and one I’ve always wanted to explore. Second–my daughter. As some of you know, I have a twelve year old daughter, and she is an avid reader. She’s always wanted me to write something she could share with her friends and read herself, so this is my gift to her. It’s been such a joy to share my writing with her and see her light up and she reads it.
The Tattered Gloves is geared towards upper YA due to some sensitive subject matter. Cover and back blurb to come soon!
This book idea came to me like a freight train. One day, I was in the shower (which is where all my good ideas come) and suddenly I was rushing out, dripping wet, trying to figure out how to fit this crazy idea into my schedule.
Which is why I’m now writing two books at once.
As I write The Tattered Gloves, putting all my emotion into its pages, Fraud is where I get to release the sexy, fun part of me that is left over. This book is definitely not YA and will similar to Behind Closed Doors as far as tempo and tone.
I’m hoping to release this book early 2017 as well, but I do not have a set date.
I know everything is a little vague at this point, but just stick with me and I promise I’ll give you more soon!
If you follow my blog, or any social media, you may have seen that the Ready series is once again available everywhere! To celebrate, I’ve put the entire series on sale!

Ok, folks! That is all the news I have for now!
I was just looking up graphics for the title of this post, and just realized “The Old Switcheroo” is a Winnie the Pooh story.
I love Winnie the Pooh.
Okay, anyway…getting off topic.
I have a point to this blog post.
First, I wanted to thank those of you who have picked up, read and loved Behind Closed Doors. It’s been a little over two weeks since release and I’ve been so humbled by all of the Roman love out there!
Secondly, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of some adjustments I’ve made to availability of my books.
As most of you know, or maybe you didn’t…who know. But over the summer, I put the Ready series into Amazon’s exclusive Kindle Unlimited program. This required me to pull all five books from all other retailers. This was never a permanent move for me, and I’m happy to say that on October 5th, Logan, Garrett and yes…Declan too, will be returning to ALL retailers! <3
With this change, I wanted to give KU readers another opportunity to read some of my books, so I recently enrolled the Walls duet into KU, as well as Behind Closed Doors. Since these three books are tied together in some way, it only made sense to allow KU readers to have access to all three. As with the Ready series, this is not permanent, and I will most likely re-publish them everywhere in three months…so if Amazon isn’t your preferred retailer and the thought of downloading one more app on your phone makes you want to hurt someone, never fear…Roman will be back.
Okay, that’s it for now. I’m going to go write some words.
BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is HERE!!
I’m so excited to share this book with everyone!
After the Lost & Found series, I really needed book that made me feel happiness and joy. As an author, I tend to get lost in my characters when I’m writing their story and August and Everly’s books were draining. I loved them, don’t get me wrong–but those two were exhausting!
Moving forward, I needed to write something that wasn’t so heavy and angst filled–and I really didn’t think I’d find that in grumpy, jerkface Roman.
But I did!
I’ll be honest–this book wasn’t easy to start. Part of me wanted it to be dark. I wanted you to cry…to bleed for Roman. But that wasn’t his story in the end. Yes, he’s damaged…yes, he’s far from perfect and kind of an asshole. 🙂
But it’s his heroine, Cara that really brings the light to this book. She’s everything he’s not….everything he swore he didn’t need. And that’s what makes them perfect together. Opposites definitely do attract in this book. Very, very well. 😉
This book is filled with sexy moments, sweet sentiments and a few twists to keep it interesting!
I truly hope you enjoy Roman’s story. I hope you fall in love with him as much as I did. Be sure to grab your copy this week as the price is reduced to celebrate the release!

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS…is COMING!!
It’s been almost five months since I released a new book, and I am SO EXCITED to release this one! Behind Closed Doors has been a long time coming, and I’m so happy to finally see it reach the hands of my readers!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Walls Duet, no worries! Behind Closed Doors can be read as a standalone! But, if you are one of my readers who fell in love with Within These Walls, then you are well acquainted with Roman Cavenaugh, the brutish brother who captured the spotlight without even trying. This secondary character who I created just to cause a little tension ended up stirring so much curiosity by so many–including me!
I had to know more, and so Behind Closed Doors was created! I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to take this book, but because of publishing contracts, I was given the time to get to know this elusive man and really give him the story (and heroine) he needed.
This book is a far cry from the Walls Duet. It’s fun, sexy and at times…pretty damn funny. I would go so far as to say it’s my first tear-free book, but I’ve had several advanced readers say the ending had them weeping. (in a happy way!)
In anticipation of this book, I wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at the FIRST CHAPTER in its entirety!
Also, if you’re the pre-ordering type, here are the current links that are available. As you will notice, Amazon has yet to be set up. We will let you know the moment it goes live, but we’ve chosen to wait until release day for this retailer. (except for the paperback, which is available for pre-order!)

I’ve been planning this for several months now.
A Ready series redo. Why, you ask?
Well, there are several reasons, but mostly I just decided it was time for a change.
Don’t get my wrong, I love, love…LOVE the original covers. They’re romantic and colorful and I spent way too much time picking out the perfect cover models to match my heroes and heroines.
But like everything else in life, styles change. Even with book covers.
I hope you enjoy these new covers just as much as you loved the originals. I know I do. And I was totally skeptical. One other change that has come to the Ready series–all five books are now exclusively available on Kindle Unlimited. If you are a member of KU, you can now read the Ready series for FREE! (All other J.L. Berg books will remain on all platforms.)
Sarah Hansen from Okay Creations did her magic once again, creating sexy covers that are simple but somehow manage to take your breath away.
I’ve been a mom for nearly twelve years now, and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are two types of moms.
Those who take pictures, and those who don’t.
If you’re a mom, or dad…or even adorable aunt or supporting best friend, you’ve most likely been to a dance recital or school play. There are those parents who fight for the best seats, arriving sometimes hours in advance with their giant, expensive camera and camcorders so they can capture every single second of little Johnny’s cute face.
And then there are the parents like me. We love our kids just as much, but well…let’s just say our lives are maybe less organized. We show up early, but not nearly as early. We get decent seats and are just as proud. But cameras? Isn’t that what my iPhone is for? And a camcorder? Again, iPhone? Those big cameras are heavy…and EXPENSIVE!
So, why am I saying all of this on a post about a book signing? Well, partially because I’m a rambler, and also because I’m trying to say I’m also the author who shows up at events and takes ZERO PICTURES. Yeah, none. I still have an excellent time, love meeting my readers and author friends, but I totally suck at the whole picture taking thing. Which is why this post has a random picture of my kid at my table. Because it was the only picture I took of the event. Go me!
Anyway, moving on to the actual weekend.
I was so incredibly honored to be invited to this event. Not only was it in the Nation’s capitol, which is a gorgeous place, but it was also with a group of ladies I admire and adore. Winning!
My girls and I kicked out this DC adventure on Friday, the day before the signing. My husband was in Texas so it was just the three of us. Which meant I got the honor of driving in DC. Boo….
Now, most of you don’t know this about me…but I hate driving. Like seriously hate it. It’s boring…the sun gets in my eyes. Yeah, hate it. When we go on long trips, my husband drives. He’s fine with it. Don’t feel bad for him. But since he was in Texas, I drove. It was only an hour and a half, so not bad. But it was DC, so therefore..it sucked.
Driving in DC traffic on a weekday is a nightmare. There are one way streets everywhere. There are people and construction and cops everywhere. And of course there can’t just be normal four way intersections. There have to be these intersections that look like giant spiders and the GPS just says, “Turn left!” WHAT LEFT SIRI? WHAT LEFT?!!
Anyway, we made it to the hotel in one piece. My tweenager made fun of me a bit but all was forgiven. We had a nice relaxing afternoon at the National Archives with four thousand other people, including a thousand school groups and ate dinner down the street from the hotel.
My husband managed to sneak into our hotel room that night (morning?) around 2AM after a midnight flight into Dulles so it was good to have him back. The next morning, I woke up bright and early and my assistant (my oldest daughter) and I headed down for breakfast and setup.
And then the madness descended. In all honesty, this was one of the best events I’ve ever attended. Everyone was happy and cheerful to be there…the organizers were amazing and the location was gorgeous. I spent the day meeting and greeting tons of readers, signing books and smiling. It was a great day. And I was even fed. Bonus!
My daughter especially loved all the attention. There was a moment when we finished setting up the table before the first session began that we decided to take a potty break. When we walked outside, everyone on line said hi and several recognized her from my Facebook and Instagram posts. She felt like a celebrity. I was cool for a second.
One of the best parts of group signings, besides meeting and talking with fans, is the chance for me to reconnect with my friends. Authors tend to be highly introverted. It’s just part of our job. We work alone, and our closest friends are sometimes other writers who might not live down the street or even in the same state. Getting to catch up with Mia Sheridan and her husband, Tara Sivec, RK Lily, Katie Ashley and Jasinda Wilder was great. And I got to hug Kim Holden!
After lots of promises to meet everyone in the bar after a family dinner, I totally crashed. Yep, I suck. After the four of us enjoyed a quiet dinner, I crawled back to our room, got into my PJ’s (it was seriously 7:30 at night guys) and ordered one of those ridiculously expensive in-room movies for the kids and collapsed on the bed. It was heaven.
So, even though I don’t have any pictures of the actual event, trust me. It was awesome. And to those of you that were actually there…thank you so much for making it out to see us!
I think I’ve used that title for at least five different blog titles now…
Which brings me to my first update!
When I first started my website, I used the blogging section of the page as a type of newsletter. It was an easy way to update subscribers with sales, releases and anything else book related. But, now that I actually have a newsletter, the idea of using my blog for the same purpose is well.. redundant.
And it’s not really what blogging is for…right?
Getting to the point now!
I’m going to start blogging! Not a lot…not every day, and not just about book related things. It’s what a blog should be after all (and I promise they’ll be shorter than this…probably).
So, if you’re getting this email and you’re thinking to yourself, “I don’t really want to read this crazy woman’s ramblings…I just want to know about new releases!”
That’s cool. Just sign up for my newsletter. It’s sent out only when I’m having a sale, a new release or I’ve got a special announcement. I’ll make sure to include these in my blog posts as well, but I want this part of the website to be a little “more”.
I’m so far behind in my updates that I’m two releases behind! That’s right…TWO RELEASES BEHIND!
Remembering Everly released digitally on April 5th everywhere! This is the second (and final) book in the Lost & Found series. So, if you were avoiding this series because you heard of a certain cliff hanger at the end of the first book…have no fear! The second book is here! (ha! That rhymed!)
Forgetting August! In Paperback!
Now on to the second release! Forgetting August is now available in paperback!
Yes, that’s me pointing at my own book, on release day (Also, April 5th), at my local Barnes and Noble store. It was a surreal moment. Even though Forgetting August is my eight book published, it is the first to be released in bookstores nationally and was a huge milestone in my career! So, if you happen to stop by your local bookstore and spot it, be sure to snap a picture and tag me on social media!
Also! I have updated the website store, so if you want to purchase a signed paperback (or any of my other paperbacks) you can now do so, directly from me! <3
Behind Closed Doors!
Roman is COMING!
I know you’ve been waiting…and I know it’s been a long time. So long, that half of you are probably thinking to yourselves, “who the hell is Roman?”
Think back to Within These Walls…remember Jude’s hot brother? That’s Roman! And he’s getting his own book!
This will be a standalone! Reading the Walls Duet is not required, so if you have absolutely no idea who or what I’m talking about, no worries!
Because of publishing contracts, and my writing schedule, this book is slated for release in early October! You can read the blurb now! Cover and pre-order info coming soon!
I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this, but in the interest of updates, I might as well announce all the foreign editions I have coming out (just in case you have any distant relatives you want to inform), and those that have already released! (Click on the links to check out the AMAZING COVERS!)
Within These Walls (Il mondo in una stanza) – Italy (Nord)
Within These Walls (Jede Sekunde mit dir) – Germany (Egmont/LYX)
Within These Walls/Beyond These Walls – Spain (Urano) — Coming Soon!
I know I’ve mentioned this one before, but it needs repeating. Please, please…..PUH-lease feel free to follow me on social media. I know authors often say, “I love my readers!” and then never respond to their emails…but I actually do love my readers AND respond to their emails and posts…and comments!
Here are all the fun places you can find me!
WHEW! I think that is it for updates! Although, as soon as I hit publish, I’ll probably think of a couple other things. Isn’t that always how it goes?
